WHAT IS A SPEECH PATHOLOGIST? 

A Speech Pathologist works with people who have difficulties with communication or swallowing. This can include challenges with speech sounds, language, social communication, reading, writing, and feeding/swallowing skills.

Speech Sound Disorder 

A speech disorder is difficulties with producing sounds we need for clear speech and being easily understood. 
Speech Pathologists assess and provide help for: 

  • Articulation and phonology (how clearly speech sounds are understood)

  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech (a motor planning speech disorder). 

Language Disorder 

A language disorder is defined as difficulty with understanding or using spoken language, as well as reading and writing.

 Speech Pathologists assess and provide help for: 

  • Late talkers

  • Developmental language disorder

  • Specific learning disorder

  • Communication needs of non- verbal or minimally verbal children
