Parent Coaching
WHAT IS PARENT COACHING?
Parent Coaching at Bright FACES provides guidance and support to help parents and caregivers understand and respond to their child’s unique needs with confidence. Our experienced therapists work alongside families to develop practical strategies for everyday challenges such as behaviour, emotional regulation, routines, communication, and independence.
Parent Coaching focuses on strengthening the parent–child relationship, building and improving confidence at home, and promoting positive family interactions. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to each family’s goals, values, and circumstances.
Whether you’re navigating new developmental stages, managing challenging behaviours, or simply wanting to feel more equipped in supporting your child, parent coaching can provide the tools and confidence to help your family thrive.
Coaching may include parent-only sessions, which provide time for deeper discussion and collaborative problem-solving. In these sessions, the clinician may gather background information, discuss current concerns, and share therapy approaches while explaining the “why” behind strategies. This helps parents and caregivers feel confident implementing strategies independently at home.
During parent-only sessions, clinicians and families may explore practical ways to support a child’s emotional regulation, behaviour, sensory processing needs, communication, play skills, daily routines, and growing independence. These sessions allow space to reflect on what is currently working, identify barriers, and develop realistic, individualised plans that fit within the family’s routines and values. Parent-only sessions can be particularly helpful when navigating new developmental stages, managing more complex behaviours, supporting the use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices, or preparing for transitions, such as starting school.
At times, parents or caregivers may also be invited into therapy sessions with their child. During these sessions, clinicians actively model specific interventions, coaching techniques, or environmental adjustments in real time. This may include demonstrating strategies to support co-regulation, scaffold play or motor skills, adjust sensory input, structure routines, or support communication.
Parents are supported to observe, practise, and receive feedback within the session so they can confidently apply these strategies at home. This approach helps bridge the gap between the clinic and everyday environments, building consistency, confidence, and shared understanding between families and therapists.
At Bright FACES, parent coaching is highly individualised and may involve professionals from
Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology. The focus is always on supporting the child’s development while empowering families with practical tools and strategies that are sustainable in everyday life.
